A HTML page in general is a static document like a Text book.But there is hardly any interaction or attraction for the visitor in its early days. Web developers then wanted to introduce some dynamism in their design. This led to Animated graphics. Now they wanted some user action inputs after a page is loaded from the server. This they wanted to perform without seeking for any additional inputs from the server. The hype led to the birth of Dhtml.It is not a separate language and will have to be used in conjunction with HTML and other scripts like Javascript/VB script. But its implementation got stuck in the fight between Microsoft and Netscape in finalising the " Document Object Model ".Hence it is not official and blessed by W3.org.
This is one of the uses of Dhtml. The more frequently used or misused script is in Animation. If you have met our Secretary, you know what I mean !.
More such fancy works can be done using multiple layers with <layer> tag and scripting. But only Netscape may recognize the source.
Why this craze ? Young toddlers smile and point at animated images even before they can talk. Cartoon Network is popular due to this. But apart from Entertainment, dynamic animation can be used in sales Brochures to display assembling number of components.
